The link I have chosen
comes from the early childhood Australia website which is equivalent to the
U.S. based NAEYC which I believe is a great website for early childhood education. Early childhood education is not just present
in the U.S. but other nations as well and when everyone comes together to make
education one huge success, the future becomes much brighter for our young children.
This Australian website
gives some great international research topics.
One topic I explored, Belonging, Being, and Becoming is aimed to help specialists
apply the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) which was permitted by the
Council of Australia Governments (Early Childhood Australia, ECA). There is still a lot of work to be made from
this but it will deliver useful care to early childhood education like
preschools, to implement the EYLF.
Another good topic I explored is School readiness and children’s
transitions. This provides excessive
resources to support parents and educators in assisting children make the change
from child care to preschool, and from preschool to above (ECA). Parents and educators need assistance like this
to ensure everyone is on the same page and striving toward the same goals in
education. The links and resources on
school readiness and transitions are quality-assured by Early Childhood
Australia (ECA).
From viewing this
international website I found that the ECA has a number of quality-assured
resources which deal with the issues of childhood obesity and child health. These two related aspects of early childhood
care and education have been the focus of attention throughout the world being
that technology is steadily increasing and recess times are being taken away to
try and build up education amongst early childhood. Basically, poor eating habits, lack of
understanding of or access to food/nutrition information, and lack of fitness
and physical exercise are all factors which contribute to what is becoming
known as the obesity epidemic (ECA). The
ECA website provides quality resources available that look at the issue of
childhood obesity:

Carlos,
ReplyDeleteThe information that you give was very interesting. I definitely agree with you point on parents and educators need to be on the same page. I also found the parent's guide of healthy eating habits for children under five to be very helpful.
Thanks
We live in such a health conscious society and staying physically fit affects all other aspect of our lives in general. I applaud Mrs. Michelle Obama's Let's Move Campaign. There needs to be healthier options presented to children, decreasing their intake of foods that are high in sugar, salt and fat. Nanci Hellmich (USA Today) reports "kids consume 30% to 50% of their calories while in school." (Hellmich, USA Today, 2012). It is critical that parents and children are educated about the benefits of healthy eating and making healthy choices to avoid serious health ailments such as asthma, diabetes, and so much more as it relates to being over weight.
ReplyDeleteGreat information Carlos!

ReplyDeleteCarlos,
ReplyDeleteI see that we both thought that the Early Childhood Australia website is a very valuable website that can be beneficial to professionals, families, and children. I feel that the resources provided will allow any early childhood professional the opportunity to apply some of the strategies and projects in their own work in order to provide children with high quality services. I also agree with the comment you made about parents and professionals working together because I feel that children need a strong support system in order to be successful. I feel that if parents and professionals work together more often we will have a better chance at addressing the needs of each child in order to aid them in reaching their full potential.
Carlos,
ReplyDeleteYou presented very interesting information concerning the website that you collected. I agree that childhood obesity is an important topic that concerns children worldwide. Also, it is imperative, as early childhood educators, that we spread this message so that more people can inform themselves to the risk. I do feel that more research needs to be conducted concerning nutrition in our school and ways that we can increase physical activity in the classroom. With the current push towards academics I am afraid that this trend is only going to get worse. Knowledge about important topics such as this one is important to have so that we can work in a collaborative nature with our international counterparts to solve problems.
Thanks for your comments,
Amanda
Carlos,
ReplyDeleteYes this website did provide much insight on new research topics. Is the topic of child obesity of interest to you? (is it related to your research topic?) If it is then great you have found some credible sources for your project. I was looking for some intriguing topics related to my topic of self-esteem in early childhood.
Hello Carlos
ReplyDeleteI thoroughly enjoyed reading the information that you incorporated in this week’s blog; I found it to be very informative. Childhood obesity is a topic that I feel deserves to be researched more in-depth. I wrote a research paper on childhood obesity years ago and learned about both immediate as well as long-term effects on a child’s health and well-being. Parents should be informed of the risks and well as preventions when they have children who are obese. I think educators should exchange information regarding issues in this area in order to increase its awareness. Schools play a particularly critical role by establishing a safe and supportive environment with policies and practices that support healthy behaviors. Schools also provide opportunities for students to learn about and practice healthy eating and physical activity behaviors.
Childhood obesity is one of those topics which I don't think gets consistent focus - I also think it is more complicated to combat then one might think because you are dealing with issues of culture, poverty, stress etc. But, like a lack of ECE, the long term consequences of childhood obesity are enormous in terms of dollars . . .
